Extremely young, vibrant environment. Everyone is close friends with each other and enjoys each other's company. I've never heard of a company that puts so much emphasis on their culture, very much work hard play hard. Applied Value offers a VERY unique model that combines Private Equity with Management consulting. That means consultants get to work with portfolio companies, making the impact of a given project much more applicable to Applied Value's bottom line. This is combined with top notch (Fortune 50) clients on the traditional management consulting sides. We really only compete with MBB, which gives an idea towards the caliber of projects. That said, given our size and DNA (our own companies), our work tends to be much more ground-level and hands-on, while still strategic in nature. All in all, the experience is much more rewarding than at bigger companies.

Our culture is extremely open and probably the epitomy of "flat". There are no unneeded policies, which means things like taking vacation just mean texting the manager/partner (no forms, etc.). The firm also encourages and promotes an entrepreneurial mindset, which generally results in a unique breed of people (rather get results than make a pretty slide), which in turn makes the culture much more open and pragmatic.

Applied Value did an amazing job of creating a culture where you want to come into the office. People genuinely liked each other, and it was reflected in the overall quality of the work produced. There was always a high level of respect and collaboration among colleagues, and often there wasn't someone looking over your shoulder to make sure your work was getting done. You were assumed to be responsible, and that feeling of accountability was really important.
