We focus on high-level strategy, which allows us to have huge impact on the future of new therapeutics. In my relatively short time at ClearView, I have had far more impact on advancing medical breakthroughs than I did in during my PhD in a prestigious translational lab. Right now, I am looking at a brand new drug and determining which of a dozen diseases is most likely to be treated with the novel therapy. The results of the project will inform what patients are enrolled in a clinical trial. This is the kind of work I hoped to be doing when I signed up for a translational medicine PhD.

The compensation is generous. Last year, bonuses were paid out substantially above target, which reflected a year of hard work on behalf of the employees. It was gratifying to know that the partners valued our substantial contributions to the firm's success and decided to provide a monetary "thank you."

We are encouraged to take all our vacation time, especially in the form of long vacations. If you take a long weekend in the middle of a project you will probably have to do extra work before or after, but if you're taking a week or more off, your projects will be scheduled around your vacation. One place the firm excels is medical insurance. First of all, you get paid $300 if you visit your PCP (once per year). Secondly, there is a terrific arrangement between the insurance company, our secondary benefits manager, and medical providers, where we never have to pay any money for medical care – our deductible is zero dollars. The secondary benefits manager sends you a check for the exact amount of any medical bills you may receive--and nearly always, the check arrives in the mail on the same day as the bill. Coming from a PhD program with messy, incomplete insurance, this is a dream. Not only is it free, but since the monetary value of the check always matches the amount charged by the bill, I know there have been no mix-ups and I am not being charged for anything inappropriate.
