Goldmans is dedicated to making money, exclusively. It is not an organisation that views service to the customer as even a means to that goal. Fine, if you can get behind money as the only worthy work goal. Not fine, if you want to leave the world a better place for your having participated in it.

They detract from the reputation of Investment Banks. Unfortunately, the negative stereotypes of money grabbing, non morally centric firm seems to stick.
Employee - Vice President
Not customer oriented type of company.

I would like greater access to managers and other employees higher up on the organizational chart.

At Goldman Sachs, the culture is built around working hard, playing hard and reaping the rewards. You need to understand that keeping the company innovative required a time and mental commitment

Would change how annual reviews are completed, instead of getting the feedback from peers, have a manager issue a single review with goals and clear objectives of the role and expectations of what needs to be accomplished.

It's one of the largest financial firms in the world and a good reputation.

Highly recommended. Worked for GS in both the Zurich and New York office. It is an extreemly competitive environment in a positive way and one gets to work with realy bright individuals. Never borring and always exiting and interesting. Organization motivates people to grow in there careers and offers plenty of traning programs to do so. Have since worked for two other organizations that do not come even close. As working primarily in the IT side, GS consideres IT as part of the business and hence partnerships with IT closely on all the projects. This latter part I have found missing on other organizations that consider IT purely as a cost centre.

Not a place to work if you are not self driven and motivated. Expect to be challenged frequently.

Culture is team work and have people help each other. People own up to making mistakes and the focus is on fixing the issues and then what can be done to prevent it happening again. There is very little time spent on blaming people.
Employee
Needs more workplace flexibility.
Employee
Culture is a bit politically correct.

Work/life balance options are available through policy (flex-time, etc) but not really acceptable to use (at least when I worked there).

One tip - Don't pretend to know something you don't.
