IBM is a big organisation with high resources and skilful individuals. Have a great portfolio of projects and solution offerings. One can really work hard and progress in any stream.

Former Employee - Associate/Consultant
Technicality in seniors and allow junior to push the limits. Opportunity to train yourself for your next step. Customer facing and representing opportunity.

Current Employee - Principal/VP/Director
No clear career path or development of skills. Poor leadership. Projects often times do not present good opportunities to grow skills & experience junior staff. Large bench and layoffs, as a result.

Shareholder value.

Former Employee - Manager
The highly matrixed organization makes it tough to understand who does what and who reports to who. The performance management and promotion process is so clunky it's easier to jump to another firm for a higher level role than to wait in line for a promotion opportunity.

Little cooperation. Infighting over a shrinking pie

Former Employee - Manager
Too big and slow to react to market conditions. Treats employees like commodities and business unit is declining in their capabilities

Former Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Thought leaders, delivery of solutions is as good as the management and staff allows.

They thrive on innovation, always looking for intelligent ways to enhance product offerings and enhance business services.

IBM overall has a bad reputation due to class action lawsuit.

Very solid pipeline. There is always work.

Former Employee - Senior Associate/Consultant
For me it was more about the people than the written culture statements.

Former Employee - Manager
Reputation is good, mostly earned.

Former Employee - Associate/Consultant
With reservations that the organization is frequently at loggerheads with their client - mostly of necessity, creating a stressful environment if sustained.
2019-01-31
Former Employee - Associate/Consultant
Intense, clinical, exacting, ruthless. No room for anything less than competence, at least from the consulting line. Management, maybe not so much. Not financially rewarding, but professionally exciting.

Perceived as overpriced. Restructuring always creates bad feelings. When done well, outstanding results. Too often, the approach was overly comprehensive leading to inconsistent successfulness across departments. Market knows this, also perceives IBM as trying to upsell every possible opportunity (slang term is "paint it blue" after IBM's corporate color).
