All the perks have been taken away in prior years. Company does not even contribute to the 401K through out the year. They contribute once a year in December and if an employee is laid off in Nov, they lose the employer contributions for the entire year.

Bullying. Unrealistic targets. Cronyism. Dinosaur. Financial engineering. Media management of perception. Senior management takes care of itself at the expense of employees and clients.

A company past its prime trying to make a comeback... Akin to an actress in her 60s who thinks she can act in a movie as a 16 year old.

The strategy group is not a core competency - it focuses on internal strategy consulting to IBM executives so one is involved in the politics and it isn't a "true" consultancy. Also the culture at IBM is harsh - it is bureaucratic and unreasonable.
Employee - Manager
Dysfunctional. Focused on politics rather than good work. Focused on the next meeting and pleasing the CEO

The strategy group I was in was unique so base pay was high compared to the rest of GBS and IBM (I worked on a restructuring project so know this as a fact). On average we were paid a base salary two levels above the IBM average which is commensurate with other strategy firms. However the other 99 percent of GBS pays poorly. Bonus is completely based on IBM perfoance

Salary + bonus + stock purchase plan. Stock options given for retention purposes but not for all levels.

If you work in corporate or have corporate as a client you can work virtually. However there is virtual face time so it is not flexible. 90 percent of work is fire drill mode and you are expected to be available at all times on IM so it isn't as "flex" as made out to be. Actually because no one is ever in the office there is an innate sense of distrust that employees are working

My review applies to GBS strategy which is a very small part of GBS. The graduate degree was required for my group of 89 but likely not the rest of the company. There is no appreciation or concern for personal life. Additionally everything is based on stock price so there are no perks that make the hours more available. For example there is no coffee available at IBM offices to save money. Analysts would work till midnight without being able to order dinner. They are penny wise and pound foolish.

IBM has a better reputation than it deserves. Though work was not necessarily helping me grow as a professional there seems to be a perception (for strategy group) that "IBMers know how to get things done" which is valued in industry
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Supportive and collaborative culture
