In my time at the firm we received a base salary, and a small annual bonus, and substantial benefits (with the ability to restructure these benefits as Flex-Benefits. Hence, if one wished, one could take most of the benefits as Cash, or more as benefits eg childcare vouchers etc). This degree of Flexibility from one year to the next was excellent. In addition, one could purchase additional tranches of Life Insurance / Pension contributions, which also was v helpful.
