Employee - Vice President
A predatory-style work culture.
Employee - Managing Director
For three years I worked to create common data, application/rules engine, platform, data services approach across both Wealth Mgmt organizations (US, Swiss) and Investment Banks. There are definitely synergies and cost optimization to be achieved which would make them more competitive ... instead they choose to basically be three separate companies
Employee - Managing Director
Could/should have been better ... there relentless cost cutting, as opposed to, cost optimization across the three business units has created long-standing cultural issues
Employee - Vice President
They ask a lot of very talented people. Not very loyal to these individuals.

UBS doesn't like for people to stay very long. It is a good place to start you career. Just don't place much hope in having a long one there.
Employee - Vice President
UBS has a very cold culture. You go in, do your job, and go home. It's a place were people make money dor others. Nothing more.
Employee - Managing Director
As one manager put it, I trim employees like I do a plant. He's now in a C level position. One doesn't work for a firm anyway, you work for the immediate managers above you. If they are quality people your experience is good, if not well... With UBS as global as it is sometimes a person on another continent redlines a whole department, only for the locals to advise that a few must be rehired to continue the business line or at least wind it down. So many Chiefs with so few indians duplicate or even quadruplate similar or parallel efforts in separate business lines until they realise it and then remove the "redundant" areas. Swearing all along that your area is indispensable. I've seen many quality people let go for no good reason at all.

I was at one time many years ago, I felt pride working there. After financial crisis we realized what a sham it all was. Those at the top got and kept their ill gotten gains, many below lost their jobs.I don't recall seeing any claw back stories in the press 2008--2012.
Employee - Managing Director
Company culture was complain in private, rah rah in meetings. Witnessed many people try to float new ideas only to be silenced and then give up or move to better firms.
Employee - Vice President
Fabulous company culture. I made a ton of great lifelong friends

My very favorite IB was Bear, Stearns which is no longer in business. It was my favorite position but UBS/PaineWebber was also a great firm. They have been through some bad times with the IRS penalizing them for hiding client assets in Switzerland to avoid US Taxes, but let's face it US taxes are too high.
Employee - Vice President
Great diversity
Employee - Managing Director
Bring our jobs back onshore
Employee - Associate
It is the typical culture of an IB. The London office though has a more of a laid back atmosphere compared to some of the US office counterparts. Overall, it was not a bad culture to be a part of in finance and would take the right offer at UBS in the future.
Employee - Associate
Good opportunity if you leverage your experience. Build to your strengths, work the hours in an efficient manner and you can succeed.
Employee - Associate
At UBS, be prepared to work hard and work independently.
