Throw out nearly everything you thought you knew about being a “good candidate," and landing job offers- the game has changed completely at the high levels. And unless you understand them and play to them, you will always be considered either an outsider or a risky hire. 

Eight things that immediately mark you as someone who doesn’t understand the code:

- A professional brand that is coming across as desperate, not authoritative.

- A "telling, not showing" interview strategy

- Spending too much time trying to gain the attention and approval of low-level gatekeepers and HR.

- Unaddressed or poorly addressed "red flags" and professional vulnerabilities that are disqualifying you.

- Allowing yourself to be "taken for a ride" during the hiring process instead of navigating it like a 50/50 partner.

- Too low of an asking price.

- No vision for the job you're pursuing beyond putting out fires - lack of strategic partner thinking.

- Not deploying Linkedin correctly - online presence raises more questions than it answers.
