Infonomics: Treating Information as an Actual Corporate Asset

Information fuels businesses and lubricates the economy more than ever. But it's much more than just the "new oil" of digital business. Join the University of Illinois Gies College of Business professor and Gartner Distinguished Analyst, Douglas Laney, in exploring how to exploit the unique economic characteristics of information. Although information is not a balance sheet asset (yet), assessing its value can lead to improvements in the way it's handled and opportunities to drive unforeseen business value from it. In this session, Mr. Laney will share how organizations can and must increasingly treat their information with the same discipline as their other assets.

Join us to learn how you and your organization can:

  • Monetize information to generate economic benefits in a wide variety of ways
  • Manage information by leveraging concepts and methods from other asset domains
  • Measure information to better understand its potential and realized contributions
  • Adapt classic economic principles in the context of information, rather than the physical and financial assets for which they were originally intended.

About Presenter:

Doug Laney is an analyst with Gartner’s chief data officer (CDO) research and advisory practice. He is an accomplished practitioner and recognized authority on information management, analytics and data governance best practices. He is considered a pioneer in the field of data warehousing, and developed the industry’s first comprehensive data warehouse/business intelligence project methodology, still marketed and used today by IBM.
