an MBA was always something that I had aspired to do. As a sales manager who spent three to four
nights a week on the road, I knew that in order to advance my career to the
level of Director I needed a broader understanding of business analytics,
business strategy and enhanced leadership skills. I wanted a nationally ranked program with the
rigor of a traditional MBA program, one that offered global learning
opportunities, yet one that incorporated enough flexibility in the course
schedule to protect my work-life balance.
The Auburn Executive MBA program provided just that. The program was a
combination of resident and distance learning made up of 5 residency weeks
during a 21 month program. (Students are required to be on campus the first
week of each semester) This program design allowed me the flexibility I needed
to complete the semester requirements on my time while managing my busy road schedule.
The added bonus of this flexibility is that it draws students from around the
globe which provided a more diverse cohort of students in terms of industry,
expertise, level of experience and ethnicity. The diversity of global students coupled
with an international trip to South America allowed me to gain the broader
business knowledge and leadership skills I was seeking. Understanding how
concepts and strategies are applied in different markets and industries gave me
breadth of understanding which I don’t believe I would have ever gotten from a
traditional brick and mortar MBA program. The five on campus weeks during the
21 month program encouraged interaction and collaboration through group
projects which allowed us to be connected during the distance learning portions
of the program. This made us all still feel a part of the broader school of
business and the Auburn Family. In fact, I am still connected to many of my
classmates from our graduating class of 2013, even those that don’t live in the
U.S.
The
Auburn Executive MBA Program gave me the knowledge and experience needed to further
advance my career – one promotion during the program and two additional
promotions after graduation to my current role of Director, National Accounts. The

Working as an engineer and transitioning to senior management at Computer Associates, a global software engineering organization was hard; I knew how to write software and solve critical technical problems, but was lacking the language of business. As a Director of Engineering, I was managing a large global team of engineers, and I found myself moving further from an engineer to a business leader, and I knew in order to compete I needed foundational skills I could not get on the job. I searched global programs that would help me learn, network, and build a long term learning relationship with the institution. This is why I chose Auburn and the EMBA program.
Auburn’s EMBA program not only gave me an opportunity to learn from the most respected academic professors, but they introduced me to industry leaders, in and outside of the classroom. The international learning format allowed students to engage and challenge theory and embrace change to see business from a global perspective. Our international trip was to China, where we didn’t just take in the sites, but we met with some of the leading companies in the world, to better understand how their business was not just shaping Asia, but the global business ecosystem. After graduation, I had the opportunity to be invited back to Auburn University to hear Thomas Friedman, share his view of global business with an emphasis on his book “The World is Flat." He shared his view on the interconnectivity of business requires more than a local view, but a global view. My time at Auburn University was beneficial while at the university and even more after graduation. Don’t just choose a school; make your choice a relationship that will be enhanced after your graduation!

Lowder Eminent Scholar in Finance
James R. Barth is the Lowder Eminent Scholar in Finance at Auburn University, a Senior Fellow at the Milken Institute, and a Fellow at the Wharton Financial Institution Center. His research focuses on financial institutions and capital markets, both domestic and global, with special emphasis on regulatory issues. He served as leader of an international team advising the People's Bank of China on banking reform. Barth also participated in the U.S. Speaker and Specialist Program of the U.S. Department of State in China in 2007, India in 2008, Russia in 2009, and Egypt in 2010. Also in 2008, Barth spoke on "Competition in the Financial Sector: Challenges for Regulation" at the G-20 Workshop on Competition in the Financial Sector, Bali, Indonesia.
Barth was an appointee of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush as chief economist of the Office of Thrift Supervision and previously the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. He has also held the positions of professor of economics at George Washington University, associate director of the economics program at the National Science Foundation, and Shaw Foundation Professor of Banking and Finance at Nanyang Technological University. He has been a visiting scholar at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the World Bank.
Barth has testified before several U.S. Congressional Committees. He has authored more than 300 articles in professional journals and has co-authored and co-edited several books, including The Great Savings and Loan Debacle, American Enterprise Institute Press, The Reform of Federal Deposit Insurance, Harper Business, Rethinking Bank Regulation: Till Angels Govern, Cambridge University Press, Financial Restructuring and Reform in Post-WTO China, Kluwer Law International, The Rise and Fall of the U.S. Mortgage and Credit Markets: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Meltdown, John Wiley & Sons (Prose Honorable Mention Award), and China's Emerging Financial Markets: Challenges and Opportunities, Springer.
His most recent books are Guardians of Finance: Making Regulators Work for Us, MIT Press (Prose Honorable Mention Award) in 2012, Fixing the Housing Market: Financial Innovations for the Future, Wharton School Publishing-Pearson in 2012, Research Handbook on International Banking and Governance, MIT Press in 2012, The First Great Financial Crisis of the 21st Century: A Retrospective, World Scientific in 2016, and Regulation and Governance of Financial Institutions, Edward Elgar Publishing in 2016. He has been quoted in publications ranging from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal to Barron's and Newsweek, and has appeared on various broadcast programs and National Public Radio. Barth is the overseas associated editor of the Chinese Banker and included in Who's Who in Economics: A Biographical Dictionary of Major Economists, 1700 to 1995.

Dr. Glenn Richey is the Harbert Eminent Scholar in Supply Chain Management. His role is to help advance supply chain management research and teaching in the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University. Dr. Richey engages in industry based research and enjoys building research and student relationships between academia and practice. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Richey has an executive certificate in international business from the University of South Carolina. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Richey worked for 10 years in managerial positions across several functional areas including procurement, sales, retail consulting, warehousing, finishing/manufacturing and logistics/supply chain operations for two companies: Scott Paper Co. and Genuine Parts Company’s S.P. Richards Division. When not at work, he enjoys his relaxation time and travel with his wife of 22 years, Suzanne, and his two sons, Max and Rob.

He has won numerous awards for his research - recently including the Cavusgil Award in 2014 for the best contribution to international marketing management in Journal of International Marketing and the LaLonde award in 2012 for the best paper in supply chain management & logistics in the Journal of Business Logistics.
Teaching Dr. Richey has won multiple graduate and undergraduate teaching awards. He is the 2013 recipient of the University of Alabama’s top teaching award - the National Alumni Association Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award given by alumni, students, and peers. He has taught across six continents and has led study abroad trips to countries including Brazil, Belgium, Chile, China, Columbia, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Greece, Spain, and Turkey. He also enjoys mentoring Ph.D. students and has helped place students at schools such as James Madison University, Mississippi State University, Ohio University, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Georgia. Dr. Richey is proud to have served as faculty adviser for many student groups and also has served as a mentor to many student athletes.
Service Dr. Richey is Senior Editor at Decision Sciences Journal and an Associate Editor at Journal of Business Logistics and the Journal of Supply Chain Management. He serves on several editorial review boards including: the Journal of World Business, Industrial Marketing Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management (IJPDLM), and International Journal of Logistics Management. In 2013, Dr. Richey won the Emerald Publishing’s Leading Editor Award as co-editor of IJPDLM. He maintains active memberships of the Academy of International Business, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, and the Food Industry University Coalition of the National Grocers Association. He holds an Associate professorship at the University of Edinburgh (UK) where he assists with research.

Dr. LaKami Baker, associate professor in the Department of Management, is managing director of the Lowder Center for Family Business and Entrepreneurship. She teaches strategic management and entrepreneurship courses at Auburn.
Dr. Baker has published in top journals such as Academy of Management Journal, The Leadership Quarterly and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Management and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Dr. Baker also spent 11 years as an engineer and product marketer with 3M. She is a member of the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, Southern Management Association and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
