Jaideep (Jay) Anand is the William H. Davis Chair and Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Strategy at the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University. Prior to joining Fisher, he was faculty at the University of Michigan (Ross). He earned a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His interests include corporate growth, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures & strategic alliances, global strategy and strategy implementation.
He regularly consults and conducts executive education programs with companies all over the world. He has worked in more than a dozen countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. He has appeared on ABC, NBC and CBS TV News, National Public Radio and Summit Business TV and has been referenced in The Economist, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, CEO magazine, Knowledge@Wharton and other popular media in several countries. He is the elected chair of the Academy of Management (the largest academic association in the field of management), IM division, Associate Editor of theGlobal Strategy Journal and is or has been a member of the editorial boards ofStrategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of Management Studies. His research has been published in business press (including the Financial Times, California Management Review and the Columbia Journal of World Business), academic journals (including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal and Organization Science), and has been widely presented at research conferences around the world.
Clinical Professor of Management & Human Resources
Dr. Jay Dial is Clinical Professor of Management & Human Resources at The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business. Professor Dial teaches strategy, microeconomics and leadership courses in Fisher’s MBA and undergraduate programs. He has been honored with the Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching, Ohio State’s highest honor granted for teaching and has been admitted to the University Academy of Teaching. He has been recognized as the Outstanding Professor in the Full-time, Working Professional and Executive MBA Programs more than twenty times and has also received the College’s highest teaching award, the Daniel Westerbeck Pace Setters Award for Graduate Teaching.
Dial is a regular contributor to Fisher’s custom executive programs, working with various clients such as Nationwide, Textron, The Limited, Cardinal Health, OSU Medical Center/Ross Heart Hospital, Alliance Data Systems and Abbott Nutrition among others. Dial has also worked in executive programs at Cornell University and Tulane University working with senior executives from Fortune 100 companies, such as IBM, Citibank, Chase Manhattan, Intel and Hewlett-Packard. He has also consulted to a broad variety of clients on strategy issues, including Aeropostale, Timken, Roadway, Lubrizol, Baker-Hughes, Ameri-source Bergen, Keybank, Tosoh America and Sterling Commerce.
Professor Jay Dial’s interests include competitive strategy, leadership and governance issues. He has published scholarly articles in various journals, including the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Financial Economics,Journal of Management and Venture Capital.
Professor Dial is a founder of the Teaching Community Interest Group within the Strategic Management Society that includes more than 1500 members. Dial is the author of numerous teaching cases published through Harvard Business School and elsewhere and also conducts seminars for business school faculty on teaching with the case method.
Professor Dial joined the Ohio State faculty in 2002 after previously serving on the faculties at Case Western Reserve University and Texas A&M University. He also worked as a management consultant with Deloitte & Touche (now Deloitte Consulting) in Boston, focusing on corporate finance and corporate strategy issues. Prior to that, he worked in brand management at Kraft at their Glenview, IL world headquarters.
Dial holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree in General Management from Harvard University and has an MBA from the University of Chicago with concentrations in Finance and Business Policy. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Old Dominion University where he majored in Marketing and graduated as the University Outstanding Scholar.
Jay lives in Upper Arlington, OH with his wife Aparna and son Bennett and daughter Annika. He enjoys woodworking, jazz and acoustic music and rooting for the Cincinnati Reds and Buckeyes.
Associate Professor of Operations Management
James A. Hill is an associate professor of operations management. He joined the Fisher faculty in 2004 after teaching graduate courses at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. Hill teaches the MBA and executive MBA core course in operations management and elective courses in supply chain management. He received the outstanding full-time MBA professor for teaching excellence in 2014 for his core operations management course and the 2011 outstanding professor for his elective course in matching supply with demand as well as the 2012 Pace Setters Graduate teaching award.
Hill is primarily interested in supply chain management with an emphasis on supply chain coordination. His research on coordination covers areas such as behavioral supply chain contracts as well as coordinating and managing supplier diversity programs. His current research examines behavioral contracts between buyers and suppliers, exploring how psychological contracts affect supply chain performance. Hill also does research on operations planning and control in process industry environments with a focus on product complexity.
His articles have appeared in Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Interfaces, Journal of Business Logistics, and the European Journal of Operational Research, among others.
Hill has extensive work experience in various management positions. His research and education in the area of supply chain management and operations planning and control have included engagements with PepsiCo., Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., Nestle, Sherwin Williams, Agrana Fruit U.S., Greif, and Kelloggs, among others.
