In his new role as President, Thompson, who previously served as PrimeLending’s Executive Vice President of National Production, will continue to lead the company’s 1,300-plus loan originators nationwide, as well as taking on responsibility for National Operations, Capital Markets, Joint Ventures and Marketing. He joined PrimeLending in 2011 as the Western Division Manager, quickly earning a promotion to National Sales Leader in 2013 and becoming a highly valued member of the executive leadership team.

A native of California, Thompson received a BA in Economics from University of California, Los Angeles and an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.
Catherine Turkel, Pharm.D., Ph.D. is President of Novus Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:NVUS), a development stage specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development of products for disorders of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT). Dr. Turkel joined the company in November 2015 as Senior Vice President of Clinical Research and Development and Chief Development Officer, with responsibility for U.S. research and development functions. In this expanded role, Dr. Turkel will now be responsible global research and development as well as commercial strategy and development.

Dr. Turkel has more than 30 years of combined clinical practice and drug development experience and has successfully led global development project teams resulting in multiple registrations of new drug treatments around the world. Prior to joining the company in 2015, Dr. Turkel held several R&D leadership positions at Allergan, Inc., including Vice President of Clinical Development for Neurology, Urology, and Pain; Vice president of Global Medical Affairs; and other positions from 1998 to 2015. Prior to Allergan, Dr. Turkel served as Director of Drug Development, Regulatory Affairs and Data Management at Cypros Pharmaceuticals from 1995 to 1998. Dr. Turkel's industry tenure also includes past positions at IVAC Corporation, California Clinical Trials, and Siemens Infusion Systems as well as many years as a hospital-based critical care pharmacist. Dr. Turkel holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of the Pacific, an MBA from the University of California, Irvine, Paul Merage School of Business, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business from Capella University.

Margarethe F. Wiersema holds the Dean’s Professorship in Strategic Management at The Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. She has an MBA and Ph.D. from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
The recipient of numerous awards for excellence in research and teaching, Professor Wiersema was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Copenhagen Business School in 2016 in recognition of a remarkable contribution to research dissemination and education. She was elected as a Strategic Management Society Fellow in 2012 for making significant contributions to the theory and practice of strategic management. In 2006, she was awarded the Distinguished PhD Alumni Award from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. She is an International Fellow for the Advanced Institute of Management Research in the UK. She has served on the faculty at the Business Schools at the University of Michigan, Rice University (where she held the Fayez Sarofim Vanguard Professorship in Management), and as a visiting scholar at London Business School and Copenhagen Business School.
Professor Wiersema is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts on corporate strategy and CEO succession and replacement, with more than 50 publications and over 8000 citations. She has published extensively in the premier journals in the field including the Harvard Business Review, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly. Her research is widely acknowledged by over 7000 citations, numerous best paper awards by the Academy of Management and Strategic Management Society, and invitations to present her research at leading universities including the Duke University Strategy Conference, London Business School Ghoshal Conference on Managerially Relevant Research, and the inaugural conference for launching the Global Strategy Journal. Prof. Wiersema’s research has been quoted by the New York Times, The Financial Times, The Economist, Fortune, Business Week, the Washington Post, and her research has appeared in The Economist Intelligence Unit for their “Executive Briefing”.
Professor Wiersema is actively involved with the business community by providing expertise on the subject of strategic analysis and thinking as well as the role of the Board of Directors and corporate governance. She has addressed a variety of business audiences and has consulted with Fortune 500 companies, and has been actively involved in director training.
Prof. Wiersema serves as Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal, the premier academic journal in the strategy field and on the Senior Editorial Board of Global Strategy Journal. In addition, she serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science and the California Management Review. She served on the board of directors of the Strategic Management Society (2006-2010) and was Past President of the Corporate Strategy and Governance Group of the Strategic Management Society (2006-2008). In 2016, she was elected as Deputy Dean of the Strategic Management Society Fellows.

Vijay Gurbaxani is the Taco Bell Professor of Information Systems and Computer Science and Director of the Center for Digital Transformation (CDT) at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business. His research, teaching and consulting interests are at the nexus of business strategy and information technology (IT). He focuses on analyzing how emerging information technologies enable business model innovation; on developing and evaluating business-driven strategies for the sourcing of information services; and on valuing IT investment. His approach is distinctive in its use of economic principles as the lens with which to analyze strategic management questions.
Vijay has extensive experience in management education and advisory services, having lectured worldwide on management issues, taught extensively in degree and executive education programs, and consulted for and provided research expertise to many organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, technology service providers, and leading consulting firms. He has been a visiting scholar at the business schools at Stanford University and at MIT. In 1994-95, he was a Research Fellow at Computer Sciences Corporation, where he reported to the President of the Technology Management Group.
Vijay has an active research program supported by funds from the National Science Foundation and from industry, having raised over $5M during his career. He authored the book, “Managing Information Systems Costs,” and has published numerous articles in premier journals in his areas of specialization including Information Systems Research, Management Science, MIS Quarterly and Sloan Management Review. His expertise in outsourcing was recognized when he won the 2002 Outsourcing World Achievement Award in the Academic category by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Michael Corbett and Associates at the fourth annual Outsourcing World Summit Conference & Exposition.
He also served as Senior Associate Dean from 2006 to 2008 and Associate Dean of the MBA program from 2004 until 2006 and from 1995 to 1999. In both terms, he led the school’s efforts to develop and implement new innovative curricula aimed at providing students with the capabilities and knowledge needed for success in the businesses of the future. In his first term, he initiated and then led the development of the school’s new strategic focus on the transformative role of information technology in business, an approach which led to widespread external recognition of the business school as a center of excellence in IT in business.
Dr. Gurbaxani received an integrated 5-year Master's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He received Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Business Administration from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Rochester, New York. His doctoral thesis won the prize for the best dissertation in a worldwide competition sponsored by the International Center for Information Technologies.

Joanna Ho is a professor of Accounting at UCI Paul Merage School of Business. She holds both a BBA and MBA from the National Taiwan University, and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Ho has received the KPMG Peat Marwick Research Opportunities in Auditing Grant and her work has been published in journals such as Accounting Horizon, Accounting Organizations and Society, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Behavior Research in Accounting, Contemporary Accounting Research,Information Systems Research, Journal of International Accounting Research, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Strategic Management Journal and others. She has made numerous presentations at conferences and workshops held in the States and around the world.
Dr. Ho has been teaching management accounting-related courses in the Merage School's Full-Time MBA Program, Fully Employed MBA Program, Executive MBA Program, Health Care Executive MBA Program and Executive Education programs. She is also teaching Global Business classes for the Executive MBA Program. She has received GSM Excellence in Teaching awards and a University Wide Celebration of Excellence in Teaching award.
