Teambuilding, adaptability and innovation are 3 characteristics that define Ben’s professional career. For over a decade, Ben led teams as a professional basketball player, competing and winning championships at the highest level of the sport in the U.S. and abroad. During this time, Ben also founded BE READY Academy, a multi-state youth leadership and training program. Ben adapted his teambuilding skills to recruit, train, and inspire a talented team from all industries that drove dynamic marketing programs and grew the program from 25 participants and one location to serving over 750 youth at sites in multiple states. Ben led development of 27 business partnerships (with companies such as Hilton, Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A, and Dick’s Sporting Goods) which increased financial support by 20% and increased student enrollment by 25% year-over-year, providing partial or full-financial assistance for 100% of students.
Ben took those innovation and marketing skills and his passion for bringing together mission-driven teams to Intuitive Surgical in 2013. He currently manages the training technologies for the da Vinci surgical system, which includes more than 2000 da Vinci simulators at customer sites and is the largest VR surgical simulator install base in the world. In his role, Ben is responsible for management of global business partnerships and relations, execution of high-impact product launches/roll-outs worldwide, branding and marketing strategies to accelerate adoption, and utilization and sales of key technologies. He collaborates with internal and external customers to capture user needs, drive current R&D and define the long-term product road map.

With an academic background in environmental science, it may not clearly follow that Bridget would become a management consultant. But in reality, the scientific and consulting processes are similar: put forward a hypothesis, collect evidence to support or refute it, then synthesize the evidence into recommendations.
For the past seven years, Bridget has been advising C-level clients at FMI Corporation, a management consulting firm that serves the top engineering and construction firms in the country (and around the world), and ScottMadden, a management consulting firm with deep expertise in implementation and organizational change management that works with the top 20 investor-owned utilities across the nation. Bridget has also worked in wind energy project development in the United States and Europe. Passionate about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, she serves as the Vice President for the local chapter of Ellevate Network, a global network for professional women from a broad range of industries.
UNC Kenan-Flagler’s focus on leadership development helped catapult Bridget from an individual contributor to an engagement manager. The coursework (including Dr. Mabel Miguel’s course, “Developing Management and Leadership Skills”) and experiential learning opportunities (in particular, leading a STAR Global project in Brazil) were integral to skill development in performance management, conflict management, and cultural intelligence necessary to deliver to client expectations.

Mabel Miguel is professor of leadership and management and Director of the Global Business Center and Global Education Initiative at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. She leads global education programs and initiatives, and teaches core leadership and management skills to MBA, Executive MBA, MBA@UNC and global OneMBA® students. She has developed and taught leadership skills courses for organizations in the United States, South America, Asia, and Europe.
Corporate clients have included Altria, BAE Systems, Bank of America, BD (Becton Dickinson and Company), Caterpillar, CEMEX, Cisco, CommScope, DH&R, Duke Energy, Eastman Chemical, ExxonMobil, FedEx, Ferguson Enterprises, Glen Raven Mills, Grant Thornton, Grundfos, J. A citizen of the world, Dr. Miguel is uniquely qualified to lead UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Global Business Center and Global Education Initiative. Over the past two decades she has designed and taught global MBA courses and led students on Global Immersion Electives to South America, Europe and Asia. Born in Argentina, she has lived in Venezuela, Barbados, France and Turkey, where she was a visiting professor at Koç University in Istanbul. She speaks Spanish and English fluently, conversational French and survival Turkish.
Previously she was an associate at the Management Simulation Projects Institute at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and a senior designer and trainer for Business Simulations, Inc., a New York consulting firm. At NYU, she trained and co-designed a number of behavioral and computer simulations. Clients included Koç University, Stern’s Executive MBA Program, ESADE (Escuela Superior the Administración y Dirección de Empresas) in Barcelona, Glaxo, Inc, The American Banking Institute, The National Council for Savings Institutions, The Center for Creative Leadership, Citibank and Dow Jones.
She received her PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill and her MBA and BS from NYU’s Stern School.
T.W. Lewis Clinical Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies
Ted Zoller oversees the teaching and outreach programs of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
His research focuses on the role and structure of entrepreneurial networks and the interrelationships with investor syndicates. He has posited a "dealmakers' algorithm" to identify the most important actors in entrepreneurial ecosystems. He is an adviser to the Blackstone Charitable Foundation, and works with them to scale the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network, an entrepreneurship networking project based on his research.
His teaching focuses on new enterprise development, business models and early-stage venturing with a focus on developing entrepreneurial leaders and teams. He is the founding instructor of Launching the Venture, which has increased the number of companies to spin-off from UNC to lead national benchmarks.
Dr. Zoller oversees Launch Chapel Hill, a new venture lab that supports UNC teams that are moving to the marketplace, and a senior adviser to the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. He serves as the primary liaison for UNC Kenan-Flagler to the Research Triangle entrepreneurial community.
He is a senior fellow at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where he previously served as a vice president.
He is president of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, the largest independent, professional academic association in the world dedicated to advancing the discipline of entrepreneurship.
Dr. Zoller collaborates with leading venture accelerators in Europe, including the Accelerace program at the Symbion Research Park in Denmark. He has taught and consulted with numerous entrepreneurial ventures, and is an active, practicing entrepreneur. He founded CommonWeal Ventures, a venture advisory and analytics firm, and is a small business owner.
He serves on the boards of Idea Fund Partners, Rex Health Ventures, Southeast TechInventures, the executive committee of Council of Entrepreneurial Development and the national board of the Specialist People Foundation.
Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Mary Farley Ames Lee Distinguished Scholar
Alison Fragale studies the determinants and consequences of power, status and influence in organizations, conflict resolution and negotiation, and verbal and nonverbal communication.
An award-winning teacher, Dr. Fragale teaches courses on effective leadership and negotiation skills to undergraduates, graduate students and executives. Currently she is teaching the required leadership course in the MBA Program.
She has taught or consulted on leadership and negotiation for executives in numerous organizations, including ExxonMobil, Bayer CropScience, Eastman, the National Multi-Housing Council, AvalonBay, Post Properties, the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.
Her research has appeared in the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
Dr. Fragale worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company, Inc. Based in Chicago, she advised numerous companies in the automotive and financial services industries on issues of corporate strategy and change management.
She serves on the Board of Visitors of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences at Dartmouth College.
Dr. Fragale received her PhD in organizational behavior from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and her BA in mathematics and economics from Dartmouth, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
