Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

I am not sure what it is like working for AMEX but I had a very positive experience when I worked for them. James D Robinson III was the CEO when I first started working there. His goals were 50% EMPLOYEES 25% stack holders and 25% customers. His thinking was if the employee's weren't happy the stack holders and customers would not be happy. LOL You don't see that much any more anywhere.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Very diverse work culture.

Employee - Director

You have to self-drive your career path.

Employee - Director

Bureaucratic with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Employee - Director

Economic uncertainly, leading to workplace chaos

Employee - Director

Great opportunities for advancement and attitude of meritocracy.

Employee - Director

A meritocracy guided by MBOs.

Employee - Director

Excellence will be rewarded.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

Tribal warfare with constant efforts to self promote while making others look bad.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

Cronyism is rampant, image counts more than real accomplishments. Blatant racism and sexism is tolerated.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The company brand is a huge factor for onward job prospects. They do and will offer flexibility, but be prepared for the company to constantly tinker with roles, org charts, management and reporting lines.

Employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

American Express is an extraordinary place to work for the right type of person. It is an extremely demanding and somewhat competitive environment and a specific type of culture. But it attracts top-notch talent and is a great learning environment.

Employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

It is a competitive environment. People are smart, come from strong academic backgrounds and are pushed to excel. Work-life balance can suffer but the company was an early adopter of flexible hours, telecommuting and other measures to accommodate individual situations.

Employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

It's not for everyone. There is a very strong culture that you either match with or not. The company doesn't hesitate much to cut poor performers especially during not infrequent reorganizations and reengineering initiatives. People are seen as an asset but shareholders definitely come first.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

There is a strong manager/leader development program that encourages employee growth and stretch to develop.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

A strong ethic based culture with values that are tied to shareholder value, customer experience and employee engagement.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

It's strong ethical reputation that is known globally

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The most fabulous company in terms of culture, team work, compensation, awards and I have not worked for a better corporation again. Had I not gone through a downsizing I would still be there and would return if the opportunity presented itself. Fair but tough performance review and depending on the city you are allowed to entertain the top clients at wonderful venues and events. Wonderful Presidents award trips to all over the world if you were a top performer. I was a top 10% performer starting in Chicago and promoted to Dallas managing a multi -state team. The best company to work for ever!

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Fabulous as they embrace all cultures and make a concerted effort to create work teams to ensure it happens in and outside the workplace.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

They empower employers and make each one feel a great sense of security and integrity that carries over to all the clients and wins the business due to trust and relationship polished management by the employees. Client satisfaction and success are the number one goals.........then your own goals are equally important.
