Employee - Entry / Intern

I enjoyed the people and work place at AMEX in Germany.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

It has great culture and good place to grow one's career.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Great work / life balance (flexible working hours, generous PTO policy, most are able to work from home one or more times per week. Stong leadership (very transparent with strategies and performance). Staff is filled with smart and kind people.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Team culture was lacking, day to day work was siloed and hierarchal. Culturally they need to seriously shift the evident top down structure to be fare more collaborative and far less "title" centric.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Too siloed and hierarchal. Staff grades and band levels is an obsession from top to bottom. Yes there are smart people but new ideas are not embraced as senior leaders who have clung onto their jobs for years seemed (when I was there anyway) resistant to change.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Good to have on the resume.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The culture is generally positive and progressive, with great benefits. However, I would caution anyone that AmEx is prone to large layoffs, which seem to recur every few years at a fairly large scale and seem oriented to appease Wall Street rather than proactively managing workforce size through attrition.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Great people at most levels, progressive, good benefits. However, the threat of layoffs always loomed, and after layoffs, the workload got worse - they would always say we'll "work smarter not harder" but it never happened that way

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

If you're not in the New York office, beware of down-sizing. Otherwise it can be a great place to work

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Very political, Lot of nepotism

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Very Political, lot of nepotism, sometimes questionable ethics of leaders.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

American Express is customer and employee focused. Great people, leaders, benefits and work-life balance. I highly recommend working for this company.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

I appreciated our company leaders who lead by example and upheld our company values and principles. I was honored to work for a company with so much integrity and care for their employees and, especially, their customers.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

They sincerely care about their employees, customers and stakeholders. American Express is a world class company.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

Very stiff and regulated, not female friendly, especially older females, very much a young white male preference for opportunities and advancement.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Good workplace culture

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Respect for colleagues, diversity and growth opportunities.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Growth opportunities, world wide relocation chances.

Employee - CXO (CMO, COO, CFO, etc.)

I have worked in a Amex JV, so not entirely felt the atmosphere at headquarters. But it seemed to me as a great company to work for.

Employee - CXO (CMO, COO, CFO, etc.)

Nice work culture.
