Amex was a great place to work when I was there in the 70's, 80's & 90's. The company then was expanding its card and travel business. In addition, it was expanding into different aspects of financial services (Fireman's Fund Insurance and Shearson). Therefore, it provided the opportunity to work in many different aspects of the different businesses.

Yes, I would recommend working here. But it does get very political and they seem to discriminate against older workers with layoffs.

It was wonderful but it changed and when I was laid off at 41 yrs old, the culture became very political. Not sure what its like these days but hear its even more competitive and political.
