If I had the chance I would implement better integration of branch locations with home office in the US

Culture is focused on competition between the BofA and ML factions

Bank of America is too bureaucratic. It is very hard to get projects prioritized and funded because of banking priorities that don't affect the investment side of the house.

The rewards are great if you get in with the right management. Lots of fiefdoms. Certain MD-level leaders are pretty bad, they rotate them around at the top.

The culture at Merrill Lynch is great. The culture at Bank of America is not good, very stuck in the mud, very bureaucratic. The two cultures clash at times. If you can work with just the Merrill people, its great.

Upward mobility and lateral moves were difficult.

It is very big with a lot of moving parts. The institutional side of the business has the best and brightest. Merrill Lynch is one of the best wealth management wirehouses left on Wall St. But the retail/commercial bank has much lower hiring standards and I've been unimpressed with the people I've encountered in that area.

I work for Merrill Lynch in Wealth Management, so I can't really speak for the Banking/Sales-Trading/Research side. But on my side I think the culture is very good. Clients come first, but they also help you to be successful.
