Baylor College of Medicine is top-notch medical school and research facility

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

I went to BCM to do post doctoral work in colon cancer. My work was impeded by an on-going affair the director of the laboratory was having with another female post-doc who hated me for having to share lab space with her. The director's wife worked in the laboratory next door. The marriage split up while I was there, and I was collateral damage. The director did not even write a letter of recommendation for my next job. This was not an isolated departmental incident. An Indian Instructor and a Chinese post doc from another department told stories of women in their dept. had sex with men in supervisory positions to get promotions.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

Post doctoral fellows work, work, work, no matter where they are. Your contacts outside the lab you work in comes from going to seminars and looking for reagents, advice, from someone in a different dept.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

I grew as a professional because I was allowed to pick a project that was of interest to my Director and relevant to cancer, a topic far removed from my thesis project. I learned a lot, because I am extremely self-motivated and wanted to make a contribution to improve human health. My Director supplied me with a tech, lab space and supplies, all of which were great, except for the fact that his personal interactions wreaked havoc upon me and my professional goals. I left that field when I left Baylor. On my resume, is a description of what I did while there. The diversity I exhibit as a professional is highly desirable in the 21st century.
