Employee - Director
Since emerging from bankruptcy, I've never seen such a desire from employees at lower levels to the highest levels of leadership to be a champion for the customer experience, high quality of product and services, and a strong desire to employ the best and brightest. The culture is certainly one of adapting to change quickly, and embracing the new future of automotive. There is a strong passion for the company itself and I've personally witnessed it with many executives and employees.
Employee - Analyst / Associate
They do not compensate you based on value. They try to match your talent to a national scale which is flawed. They make you believe they care, unfortunately they only care about making money. They will threaten you after they know you would be unable to support your life style if you lost your job. Frequently change corporate policies for their best interest and not the best interest of their biggest asset, people.
Employee - Manager / Senior Manager
Had a conservative work culture, boys' club, misogynist and homophobic at the core but masked as inclusive and diverse.
Employee - Manager / Senior Manager
The process for promotions (advancement) needs to be more "transparent". Opportunities are clearly pre-assigned long before a position is even open
Employee - Director
I worked hard here and was hard driving but given new experiences I realize the model at GM was maybe too much of a dictatorship.
Employee - Director
Old school, who you know. Face time required. Family life balance was words only and not backed by actions. Vision ok but execution to completion was not strength.
Employee - Director
When I was there leadership was not transparent and actions were reactionary not necessarily strategic.
Employee - Director
There was a nice culture in place, loved by everyone; new leadership decided it was time to change. Nice on paper, not really followed on a daily basis.
Employee - Director
"Do what you say, say what you do"; apply same policies and procedures at all levels, without distinction
Employee - Director
Very organized, excellent process and talented people.
Employee - Director
If you performed you were well thought of and would move every 24-36 montns to another positon usually to improve/repair/initaite the responsibilities of that position.
Employee - Director
Needs to create performance standards and objectives for every position to better measure both the rationale for the postion and its contribution to the companies bottom line.
Employee - Director
People. Our most important asset. Nothing gets accomplished (properly) without collaboration, cooperation and sharing details completely and accurately.
Employee - Director
Good ole boys network. Hard to break into the "IN" crowd. Not enough cross training.
Employee - Director
Should try to be a more flatter organization. There are too many layers of management.
Employee - Director
Best to be patient and learn how to navigate the matrix management style.
Employee - Director
Large, diverse, unwieldy
Employee - Director
Being a "car guy" certainly helps - and very "mid western" in culture too.
Employee - Director
Alpha male culture - although I speak of OLD GM specifically.
Employee - Director
Need to distinguish between OLD and NEW GM, they are like night and day! NEW is "day".
