the HR policies are very lopsided

Typical bank. All about cross selling.
Employee - Senior Vice President
The top guy is good but his directs - not so much. It's all about sales in a highly-regulated environment. But don't kid yourself that they are interested in you and your success. It's a business. Like most banks, they don't need ideas, they just want sales and people that will help justify the ideas of others.
Employee - Vice President
Management style leans toward intimidation, not collaboration.
Employee - Vice President
Work/Life balance is weighted towards "WORK".
Employee - Vice President
The Bank should place a premium on staff knowledge when considering reduction in force and not focus as much on salary in the selection process.
Employee - Senior Vice President
Would change the size
Employee - Vice President
The work place is great but I would like to it be a little bit more nimble in terms of responding to the changing environment
Employee - Vice President
The biggest motivation to work here is the strong emphasis on doing the right thing. I strongly believe this is how the business should be done. Very bullish on their future!
Employee - Vice President
It's a good company and has been pretty good to work for but has its issues. There's definitely a lot a bureaucracy.
Employee - Vice President
Office culture depends on the department and the manager.

Would change the lack of diversity in senior management
Employee - Vice President
Should promote more networking amongst the IB divisions.

You need to dedicate some of your time to career planning and mobility. You will get an opportunity to work with some of the smartest and talented people. Learn from them and apply skills in new roles to continuously grow.

Culture used to be better. Now there is too much management transition and changes in strategy.
Employee - Associate
Would suggest the company have fewer lulls in work flow, which would allow for a more efficient day
Employee - Associate
There is a sense of community, ownership of your own work/career path, getting along with your boss

I've worked at two other investment banks and never have I felt the sense of community than at JPM. My co-workers are top notch, everyone is on the same page, and it's not cut throat. Great place to work with clear examples of upward mobility and rewarding hard work.
Employee - Vice President
I was hired based on what I know and how well I was able to communicate that knowledge to those reviewing my credentials. I landed in a group that was relatively small whose results have intense corporate impact. Further I was hired WO pulling favors, calling anyone I know, etc. So, I think this place DOES hire on merit / experience. It's a change from other places.
