Pluses: Good clients. Global brand. Great place to work and access to latest research trends. Respect and trusted by clients. Negatives: Lack of diversity in hiring, I was not impressed with management. Most of them were leaders and not managers.
Employee - Associate/Consultant
People management is critical and requires sustained effort and skill.

Excellent reputation
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
It was/is a good place to work for a period of time as it adds to your resume. It would recommend it for that reason only. It should be notes that the work environment varies greatly from office to office. Some were great.
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Constantly changing, at least those at the vary top. The partners never leave and that is a problem.
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
The annual billing/hours requirement is tied to your base salary x 3.5. As such you are carrying a great deal of dead weight. It is an inverted pyramid of sorts.
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Not to be negative but beyond salary and bonus nothing was offered. This became particularly stark after the economic downturn.
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Each Principal was his/her own business. You hang out your shingle and look for clients. Rather like a franchise. A senior actuary there once told me that they would hire Jerry Dahmer if he could bill. They would just say he had a slight eating disorder.
Employee - Principal/VP/Director
Good from the outside looking in. There are many ex-Mercer people in other consulting companies around Atlanta. That does not help their cause. The Atlanta office was poorly run and I don't believe it is an accurate reflection of Mercer as a whole.
