The MGM culture is supportive and challenging at the same time. Encourages you to do better and gives you opportunities if you are patient and wait. They reward longevity.

Employee - Director

MGM Resorts International instilled a great sense of pride in the employees for their respective properties as well as the overall company success. The employees were proud to be an MGM Resorts International employee.

MGM Resorts is a leader in their respective industry. They leverage technology as well as their people to exceed expectations.

I should say it would depend upon what department my friend was interested in joining. For me, I was hired into a very tricky situation where differing business stacks were vying to get the upper hand...and I was caught in the middle. As for my co-workers, many did not want the "big changes" that were coming down the road to happen so they did everything in their power to drag their feet and throw a wrench into anyone's day. I found that quite frustrating. As the newest person in both businesses, I could only try to do the best job I could and fight the kerfuffle when and where I could. I loved the Sr. VP of HR -- she had/has tremendous changes planned for how to (at its core) change the business at MGM thru hiring, training, managing employees. Unfortunately, not everyone else was ready for change. And the other business just didn't want HR "looking over their shoulder". On my first day, I was told that I wasn't wanted there and I should not interact with the employees. I worked hard to make a difference there but with the competing management, it was impossible to even breathe some days. I would tell people who were interested in working for MGM that they need to know it is a "machine" and it doesn't always move as quickly as a smaller company may. If you can work with that, then I highly recommend. And if you have a chance to work directly with the Sr. VP of HR, grab it!

Depending upon where you worked in the company, employees would sometimes socialize. The businesses I worked for (there were two, at the same time) were very closed off, not welcoming to new people. I didn't have a problem with that, for two reasons. One, as an HR professional, I usually keep myself a bit aside from most things so there is no look of impropriety. Two, at the end of a day/week, I just want to go home to my family, rather than have drinks with co-workers. And in my case, co-workers who didn't really want someone from "outside" property experience wasn't really welcome.

I am certain that things are changing at MGM, getting better every year. There were some wonderful people there and I certainly miss them. Some senior management are fantastic, forward thinkers. However, until they weed out the negative influencers, it will be a very hard place to work, especially if you care about what you do each and every day.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

You will not have the needed management support nor competitive compensation. They are also under a companywide cost savings plan.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

I could never get comfortable there and did not have the needed management support. Employee development is lacking.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

They are cheap in an industry that needs analytical talent but doesn't want to pay them properly.

Employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The it department went from over 600 to 45 after I left.
