Good work environment, great tuition benefits

Excellent institution for academic research. World-class research facilities and professors. Beautiful campus with modern amenities and science/engineering-inspired art & sculpture all around campus. Centrally located in Boston with easy access via car or public transport. Good work/life balance from all research groups. Very culturally diverse.

The University, College of Science and Dept. of Chemistry & Chemical Biology put a strong emphasis on team building and social activities.

My advice for anyone considering pursuing a PhD: think about the marketability of your skill. You become highly specialized in a particular (often narrow) field of study. How many companies need this specialty? Is your field limited geographically? Also, carefully choose a research adviser that can help you achieve your goals (academia, industry research, Nat'l labs, etc.).

At the undergraduate level the university admits anyone who has enough money to pay the tuition, even if they do not communicate in English. It's anything for a buck.

They used part time associate professors such as myself to keep their salary levels down. We got paid less; a lot less, than the regular faculty.
Employee - Director
Difficult work environment with little work life balance and impossible expectations with salaries that didn't match the work level.
