McKinsey quality work without the pain! Incredible work, incredible c-suite clients, from strategy all the way through to execution. And a real family atmosphere to boot. This place is unique.

Employee - Partner

This is a quote i got from a team i'm currently working with: "we love it because the partner gives us loads of space - as a result, it feels like we're working for the client rather than the partner". In other words, with many other consultancies the partner often drives the team harder than the client, without leaving any space for the team to take ownership.

Base salary is banded by level. Within each level each class is split into 3 further bands. The whole class is ranked every year by a class committee, thereby placing each individual into one of the 3 bands which determines their salary increase for the next year. Performance is evaluated using end of project reviews and end of year reviews. All online. All informed with detailed 360 feedback. All following the same exact format and evaluation criteria. Each class is then calibrated by the class committee to ensure consistency and objectivity. Bonus is then driven by a mix of each individual's performance, and the firm's performance. Think of it as a matrix. For Partners the bonus is driven by a whole set of numerical targets that they need to hit each year (sales targets, profitability, utilisation, etc), by the end of year 360 performance review, as well as an annual Leadership Survey that the firm fills out on them.

Highly collegial. Passionate. All in. Everyone's voice is listened to. We're quietly confident, and not shy to speak our minds. For us, it's all about building long term bonds - with our colleagues and our clients.

Prophet isn't that well known in the UK (and Europe). But where it is, it's seen as a top notch brand consultancy, often associated with David Aaker (our vice chairman).

Employee - Manager

Not a nice working environment, particularly for managers who suffer from a lot of stress and pressure. A number of people have been suffering from occupational burnout (and work related opanic attacks), but this seems to be seen as part of the job. Work is very uninspiring and often gets into the type of work that agencies would do (making business cards, making christmas card, chosing carpets for a bank branch!).

Employee - Manager

No clear communication: a lot of decisions are made without explaining why they were taken. The lack of strategy and clear direction is hidden behind the buzzword "multidisciplinary" - essentially, we do a little bit of everything, chasing all the hypes of the moment hoping that one will catch-on.

Employee - Manager

Seems like a very positive and open culture at first. But is actually ver cold. Prophet is very good at selling itself.

Employee - Manager

The partners are clueless. Very high pressure with little reward. Culture is terrible.

Employee - Manager

The company lives by 'Appearance is Everything' - what you say or do is not important, as long as the appearance is right.

Employee - Manager

Has a cut throat culture.

Employee - Manager

Cut throat culture -- back stabbing, toady.

Employee - Manager

Respectable market reputation.

Employee - Manager

Work-life balance is completely upside down, high stress, firm doesn't try to take care of employees--it's a meat grinder

Employee - Manager

Aggressive, slave-driving, greedy

Bonus based on matrix of individual performance and firm performance (relative to target), but firm performance never delivers, resulting in bad bonus. In most profitable year ever, still no bonus b/c firm overall didn't hit targets
