Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

The work is important and generally interesting.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

Skills and abilities outside of the core engineering discipline are not valued. While I recognize that Sandia is an engineering lab, business skills are considered equal to an administrative assistant and not considered valuable at all.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

A PhD in Engineering or Physics will open nearly every door and opportunity. Anything less is not widely appreciated.

Employee - Postdoctoral Fellow

Sandia is a very intellectually stimulating place.

Employee - Postdoctoral Fellow

I liked working at Sandia....it was very challanging because I worked with some incredibly smart people, but sometime highly intelligent people dont have social smarts though. Some of them made very indecent gestures and harrassed people also.

Employee - Postdoctoral Fellow

I am proud of what i accomplished at Sandia and for the most part....I really liked the people. I did have trouble with a senior scientist there that ended up with me leaving after working for a year with him. He said some very inappropriate things to my fiancee and myself. I heard afterwards that several people filed complaints against him in the past. I left because he made my life hell. I have learned alot more about how I should of handled it. My manager was very shocked when I left. He told me I should of said something. I didnt because I was afraid. Besides that I loved sandia and beleive that if i would of stood up and said something I might still be working there.

Employee - Entry / Intern

The ideas presented the type of work is world class. The pace is slow and efficient. The only issue is most are contractors. To become a permanent is very hard as well is getting the confidential clearance, which will allow for more insights.

Employee - Entry / Intern

The idea is to generate the best ideas and test them. Open mind and value opinions.

Employee - Entry / Intern

Development of new and unique ideas, then testing to make new products.

Employee - Scientist

Sandia National Laboratories was a place with incredible bureaucracy and with unqualified people.

Employee - Scientist

Incredibly "top-down" and quite nosensical

Employee - Scientist

It is career suicide for the scientist with high exception of their career growth.

Employee - Scientist

Promotion not based merit or ability. Nepotist.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

If the friend were looking for a post-doc or a first job for only 2-3 years, I would recommend it highly and without hesitation. However, if the friend was going to be an experienced hire, I might hesitate. Because Sandia is a government contractor, this hesitation has a lot to do with the current uncertainty in the US government and in Congress. I think it would be hard for someone mid-career to continue on the technical staff there. It might be easier were my friend to be hired as a manager of a specific program that has already received government funding.

Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant

This is a government contractor and must adhere to the rules put forth by the US government. This means that many of the things that seem like normal perks in the corporate environment-- lunches, coffee at meetings-- are not allowed. Overall, the culture is relatively subdued. There is nothing overly positive, but there is also nothing overly negative. Any extreme personalities are often weeded out by the necessity of a clearance. In general, employees are incredibly respectful and overall pretty quiet.
