Employee - Principal/VP/Director

The market reputation varies considerably by region.

Employee

Its low cost poor quality and high profits for management. 30 - 40% of onsite staff are in the US on non-work visitor visas, to avoid US taxes and have lower bids and so undercut for contracts. People are moved around - no continuity or appropriate training. Very long hours and stress for those who can do the job and cover for those who don't know the job. No support from management, they are only interested in profits, not organization growth. You are threatened by management if you try to fix the problem - I was told by Sury who is in charge of US operations -" why are you fussing, if we get caught we will pay the fine and you will not go to jail" They paid $28.6M in california in 2012, but because of scare tactics and moving people constantly, the few fines are the cost of doing business.

Employee

They are smart in getting around laws, movng quickly to new business lines and increasing profits and share capital. They have found a niche in a high unemployment market to get fresh graduates to work hard just for a job and experience, and they promise unscruplus managers bonuses (or gems in TCS language) to extract work and complete projects with very limited resources.

Employee

health and long term benefits are OK. They have a low health premium because of a very young average age and low claims, and the retirement benefits are good if you last that long (over 15 years) - less than 5% stay more than 5 years. Basic salary is low. My basic was 15% lower than my offer letter because I would not go on India payroll(to save them SS/med taxes), and they promised extra vacation which I lost in the end. Many of my friends whwo joined in 2009 - 20011 because of the high US enemployment, quit without another job in less than a year without another job. Steve quit in 7 months and Denise in 5 weeks.

Employee

Male oriented, all 8 senior VPs are men. Work hard and don't complain - they are giving you experience and a foreign trip (if you are from the india office). They like degrees/education - number matters more than quality of education. You get a different project every 6 months so you build experience. They have online education which you get free but on your own time. They have many package deals - husband and wife to the same client and paid 1.5 living allowance. Good for TCS (extra 0.5 profit) and for the employees because one of teh 2 is lower qualified and would not have got the project on their own but they get to travel/stay together.

Employee

They are a huge outsourcing company with several large offshore offices (local to TCS) and over 300.000 staff so the project will eventually get done. Confientiality is low - they share and duplicate software/ apllications between similar clients - just replace the company name in the documents. They were the outsourcers for many of the major hacked companies in the large few years - Target, Homedepot, JP Morgan, CVS, Sony(5 year omnibus SOA contract signed 2008)

Employee - Manager

Focus on money

Employee - Manager

Cheep but satisfsctory

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

Outsourcing focus vs consulting. Ethical issues with overall environment Poor domain knowledge of consultants

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

Life sciences vertical needs industry focused solutions and consulting mindset vs outsourcing. Organization has a bodyshop mentality vs customer focused thinking

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

Tata has a huge component alomost 50% as variable pay which they change the parameters after mid year to minimize payout. Several lawsuits from successful sales guys who got eased out prior to bonus payouts to maximize the payout for the vertical leader.

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

Not a flexible envornment

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

Old boys network, offshore centric culture with expats used as tools to penetrate into new accounts.

Employee - Principal/VP/Director

outsourcing cetric

Employee - Manager

Not a good environment for women. No flexibility for decision making or work hours. Extremely patriarchal.

Employee - Manager

Patriarchal culture. Only use country nationals when working in specific countries, otherwise Indian only.

Employee - Associate/Consultant

They make you work for 18 hours a day with a pay as low as 65K in california.

Employee - Associate/Consultant

They know how to get into a new account and get the business deal closed. They have a strong group of business relationship managers who work hard to attain the business

Employee - Associate/Consultant

associates make 65-70 K and higher management makes around 75 K.But their compensation is different if they recruit a green card holder or a citizen

Employee - Manager

Aggressive but needs to look give employees as much importance as they do clients. Clients needs takes priority over employees needs all the time. Some focus on employees can improve moral leading to greater efficiency
