Employee - Entry / Intern
Excellent place to work.
Employee - Entry / Intern
Some people are very nice but upper management was racially biased.
Employee - Assistant Dean
Friendly people, liberal campus and faculty. Pay is not up to market though, and heaven forbid you get in the way of the basketball program or any of the players.
Employee - Assistant Dean
Very friendly, collegial, cooperative
Employee - Assistant Dean
Legislature consistently cuts budget and targets "liberal" programs such as civil rights, homelessness, pro bono legal representation, et al. Staff and faculty do the best they can on the small budget but they can't compete with private universities like Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt, etc.
Employee - Manager / Senior Manager
They are considerate of their employees and provide excellent mentorship and support during your employment. People are all very pleasant and friendly, and they are quite innovative in their thinking.
Employee - Manager / Senior Manager
Few institutions have as much presence on a resume as the University of North Carolina in health research.
Employee - Director
I worked in a great agency created but legislature.
Employee - Director
I did not really work for UNC. Our small agency ran through them but I had independent board and reported to legislature.
Employee - Analyst / Associate / Consultant
Pay is low and parking is the worst I have ever seen.
Employee - Director
There is little to no possibility for salary increases as a state institution. The salaries are not competitive with other universities in the area. The mentality of UNC-CH is archaic at best. This was my first experience working for a state government and the lower level employees have a sense of entitlement regarding their positions (jobs are well protected), to render them very immature in their daily work ethics (generalization). The HR requirements are extreme. Leadership cannot make decisions or move progress along on projects. I was promised certain levels of support and resources which were not upheld. No integrity and anti-Semitism is rampant.
Employee - Director
Culture is dependent on the organization within UNC-CH. My organization was severely lacking. Discrimination and unprofessionalism was wide-spread. Executive leadership was absent at best, non-communicative, and unsupportive. The reputation of UNC-CH leads one to believe that freedom of expression is encourages, however the reality is that comes with repercussions. Change is almost impossible to implement due to paralysis of leadership to take any risk and decisions by committee which delay decisions to the point of no action at all.
Employee - Director
No ability for career development or salary growth. If you are at a non-manager level, job security is very strong. If you are an EHRA employee, job security is non-existent (to the point that you can be fired with no notice, for no reason, without any warning).
